| The success story of
GSPP Paper Division in the industrial brown grade paper industry
in Malaysia started in 1992 when it pioneered the paper mill in Kuala
Langat, Selangor.
GSPP Paper Division is
currently operating two paper mills at the GSPP Paper Mill
Complex which is situated in the Mukim Tanjung Dua Belas, Daerah Kuala
Langat, Selangor Darul Ehsan. The paper mill complex occupies a total land
area of about 200 acres. It is located about 70 km south of Kuala Lumpur
city, about 5 km from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in
Sepang and 42 km south east of Klang.
The paper mill is located in a strategic
position and in a region which is expected to experience rapid
residential, commercial, industrial recreational and transportation growth
in the future.

The first paper mill (PM1) which is the
industrial brown grade paper mill was completed in 1992. The main products
manufactured by this mill are Corrugated Medium, Test liner (Kraft top)
and Liner (100% recycled). The plant is capable of producing up to 210,000
tonnes of paper per annum The main sections of this paper mill are the
Stock Preparation and the Paper Machine. A major part of the components
for these two sections were supplied by Voith Sulzer and Dorries from
Germany and Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) from Switzerland.
This plant has been equipped with the
most up-to-date state-of-art Distributed Control Systems (DCS) which
allows this plant to basically run without much human intervention.
Towards the end of the production line, a gamma ray shoots continuously to
test the quality of paper produced in term of colour, moisture and basis
weight profile.
This data is fed into the computer system
which analyses it and computes the adjustment necessary for producing
different grades of paper, based on operating parameters stored in the
computer memory. The paper machine reacts to this and automatically
adjusts the inputs and controls to enable the desired paper quality. This
system integrates with plant maintenance and controls the operating
temperature.
The second paper mill (PM2) was completed
in the second half of 1996. This plant has an annual capacity of 60,000 mt.
The coating equipment was successfully installed in early 1997 and
commercial production in April 1997. During the interim period prior to
commercial production of Duplex Boards, the plant was producing various
types and grades of brown paper. The plant has the ability to produce CMP,
Kraftliner, Whiteliner and Coated Whiteliner.
With the most sophisticated and
technologically-advanced paper mill in Malaysia, Paper Division has
demonstrated that through the use of the latest technology, wastepaper can
be recycled to produce paper of international standards. Our paper is much
sought after in the region - our Testliner has high burst factor and ring
crush characteristics, and our Corrugating Medium Paper high concorra. All
our papers quality are in line with the International Standard.
